An update for 2019...
This website is very old, it was built over a decade ago - we love the fact that it still fairly simple to use but we realise some of the functionality you may have grown used to on more modern record websites & platforms is missing.

When you place an order, we never lead you to pay automatically. We prefer to find the records & only ask for payment once we are 100% sure they are available.

I notice some websites now temporarily withdraw a record from sale if you add it to your cart, giving you more time to shop. We don't have this set up, so when ordering after an email from us about new stock (aka when lots of people are shopping at the same time) if there is something Rare and indemand you might want to check out straight away & then carry on shopping. We can easily combine additional orders.

Keeping the cost of postage as low as possible
Postage is kind of expensive these days so it's better for you to optimize your postage. UK customers can now buy up to 6 records sent 2nd class Recorded for £4.90, or 3 records sent 1st class Recorded.

When overseas customers stick more than 8 records in your cart you may find the postage gets very expensive. You can basically ignore that these days as we will shop around for a cheaper option via courier.

Buying Records From DJ Friendly

How do I find records on the website?
You can browse our stock lists by clicking on the genre links on the left hand side of the webpage. This will produce a single page, with all of the stock in that genre listed. Alternatively, you can use the search option, which can be found at the bottom of genre list on the left, to search for specific titles or a particular artist you are looking for.

How do I add a record to my Order?
Simply find the record you want, and then click on the Buy Record button below the record listing. If you are not logged in, you will need to enter your email address and password to gain access to your order. If you have not registered with DJ Friendly records before, you are given the opportunity to do so at this point. Once you have registered, you are automatically logged in. You will only need to log on once per visit to the site. Once the record is added to the order, you can either continue browsing and adding records to the Order, or you can Place the Order.

How do I order more than one copy of a record?
Add the record to the twice if you want two copies, three times if you want three copies and so on. Add a comment to the Order informing us that you want multiple copies of these records, so we know that it is not a mistake. However bare in mind that we often only have one copy of each record we list.

How do I remove a record from my Order?
Select EDIT ORDER from the bottom of the Order page, then click the REMOVE FROM ORDER button that is listed below the title you wish to remove. Alternatively, if you are still interested in the record, and may wish to buy it from us in the future, you can move the record to your Wants List by clicking the MOVE TO WANTS button.

How do I place the Order?
Once you have finished browsing the site and have chosen all the records you want, you will need to place the order. This requires a couple of mouse clicks. First, click on the PROCEED TO CHECKOUT button at the top of the Order. This takes you to a page which checks to see if we have your delivery address. If we don't have your address, you are prompted to enter it at this stage. You can also change the delivery address at this point. You then need to select a payment type. Make sure you understand the various payment types before you select one, and then click the CONTINUE button. This will take you to a final page, which confirms your payment type, delivery address and the records in the order. If you wish, at this point you may add a comment or questions to the order by clicking on the ADD COMMENT TO ORDER button. To place the Order, click the big black PLACE ORDER button.

What is an Open Order?
An Open Order is an order that is in the process of being compiled by you. In other words, it is your Shopping Cart (a term we like to avoid as it sounds soooo Walmart). The order has not been placed with DJ Friendly, and the records ARE NOT pulled for you until you complete the PLACE ORDER Procedure detailed above.

How long do items stay in an Open Order?
About one month. Records that are in an old Open Order that has not been placed are moved to your wants list after this period. Remember that records that are shown in stock when you add the records to the order cannot be guaranteed to be in stock when you come to place the order. If a record has gone out of stock between adding to the order, and placing the order, you will notified before you place the Order. You will then have the option of moving the record to your Wants List, or removing the record from the Order.

Can I send you an email that contains my order?
In the past, all orders were placed in this manner. Some of you cannot get out of this habit. Put simply, TO GET THE BEST CHANCE OF GETTING THE RECORDS YOU WANT, ORDER THROUGH THE WEBSITE. Our new website makes our life much easier, by keeping a track of all orders and stock levels, as well as automating much of the sales process. Because of this, we always attend to orders placed through the website before orders placed by email.

How can I pay for my Order?
We can accept payment by a variety of methods. We accept VISA, MASTERCARD, SWITCH and SOLO cards. We are also happy to accept payment by Cash (UK £ Sterling, Euros or US Dollars), personal cheques (from UK customers only, in UK Sterling ONLY!, made payable to DJ Friendly), money orders or bankers cheques from overseas customers (made out to N.P.Girdwood, in UK £ Sterling ONLY!) and PayPal. More information about the various payment types is provided when you select a payment type during the PLACE ORDER process.

Do you accept Trades
We certainly do, we are always interested in trading or buying good records from all of the genres that we sell. We are primarily interested in records which are in at least excellent condition. Let us know what you have available with the condition and we will let you know what trade value we can give you for each item offered. Once we have agreed on a trade we need to receive your records first to confirm that we are happy with the items before we will send our records to you. If you wish to trade records as payment for an Order, please select TRADES as your payment type, and include details of the trades you are offering by clicking on the ADD COMMENT TO ORDER button which can be found on the final page of the PLACE ORDER process.

How can I check the status of my Order?
You can check the status of all of your orders at any time, by clicking on the PAST ORDERS link, which can be found on the left hand side of any webpage. This page will display your Orders under three different headings, NEW, APPROVED and CLOSED. This link will only be displayed if you are logged in to the website.

What is a New Order?
A New Order, is an order that has been recently placed, where the records have not yet been physically pulled off the shelves and confirmed sold to you. We always try to deal with Open orders within 24 hours of receiving them, except sometimes at weekends.

What is an Approved Order?
An approved order is an order which has been confirmed to be in stock by us. The records have been pulled of the shelves, but have not yet been sent. When an order is at the approved stage we are usually awaiting your payment. If you have chosen to pay by credit card, and we already have your card details we will usually send the records out next day.

What is a Closed Order?
An Order becomes Closed once the records have been dispatched.

How do I know if my records have been sent?
If you check the status of your order and it has been closed this means your records have been dispatched. The records will have usually been sent on the date that the order was closed.

How long will you reserve an approved order?
Approved Orders are reserved for a short time until we receive your payment. If you are paying by PayPal, we need to receive your payment within 2 days of your order being approved. If you are sending payment by post, the length of time your Order is reserved for depends on where you are. If you are in the UK we need to receive your payment within 4 days. If you are in Europe we need to receive your payment within 8 days. If you are in the Rest of the World we need to receive your payment within 12 days. If you don't have the funds to pay for your order at the time of ordering, we suggest that instead of placing the order you should add the items you want to your Wants List, and then review and place your order once you have the funds available.

Why couldn't I purchase all the records I ordered?
We often only have one copy of each record we list, and occasionally records are sold before we get a chance to process your order. If this is the case, the record will be automatically added to your Wants List for you by our sales system. You will be notified when this record comes back into stock. Some records come back into stock regularly, others are less frequent, depending on their rarity.

Can I combine Orders?
We will always try to minimise your postal charges, so multiple orders will always be combined together, wherever possible. However, we do not guarantee that Orders can be combined.

Can I cancel an Order?
Orders can be cancelled at any time, up till the Order has been dispatched. Send us an email with the details of the Order you want to cancel and we will sort it out. You cannot cancel orders through the Website at this point.

How do you ship records?
We send all records by signed for and trackable services, except in the case of overseas orders over 2 kilos as this service is not available through the UK Post Office. For customers in the UK - We send records by 1st class Recorded Delivery which needs to be signed for, and is insured for loss or damage up to £26. For a small premium, we can also send records by Special Delivery which needs to be signed for, is fully insured for loss or damage, and is guaranteed to arrive by 12AM on the next working day. For customers who are OVERSEAS - We send all items under 2 kilos by Airsure where available, or a Signed For service which is fully insured for loss or damage. Airsure is a little quicker. If your package is over 2 kilos we will send it by Parcelforce which can be insured up to £250, but is not a signed for service. If you wish to have your records sent by a cheaper method, we can quote you for just straight forward airmail, or even surface postage, but we will not be responsible if your records are lost.

Do you guarantee your records?
Our reputation is founded on the condition of records we sell. We have a money back guarantee if you are not satisfied with the condition of your records.

Why don't you show the prices of out of stock records?
Prices go up and down as records become more or less in demand. We do not like to quote a price for any record we do not have in Stock, as we cannot guarantee that we can supply these records at a specific price. Also, we sometimes get records in varying conditions, or on different labels, and these might be priced differently.

New Stock

How often do you update the stock?
We try to update the stock with new additions once a month. However, as records are sold, they are removed form the stock lists immediately.

How can I be notified about stock updates?
The New Stock List is published on this website. We inform our regular customers about the availability of the new list by sending them an email that includes a link to the list on the website, as well as a link to an Acrobat PDF version for those who want it. Many of the best records that come into stock are sold quickly, through this list. So basically, if you want to get a chance of getting your hands on the hottest items, you need to be subscribed... You are automatically subscribed to the list when you join. If you wish to un-subscribe for any reason, simply go to the YOUR PROFILE page (you will need to log in before this link will appear) and clear the check box at the bottom of the page.

Wants Lists

What is a Want List?
A wants list is a list of records that you are interested in, and may wish to buy at some point in the future. You can browse the database and move records that look interesting to you to your Wants List without ordering them. You can come back to that list anytime and place an Order by choosing some or all of those records.

How do I view my Wants List?
Simply click on the VIEW WANTS link that shows on the top left of every webpage once you have logged on. You have to log in to the website to view your Wants List.

How do I add records to my Wants List?
While you are browsing the site, simply click on the ADD TO WANTS button under the record that you wish to add to your Wants List. Any records that are currently in stock will be displayed at the top of the page. Records that are Out of Stock will show below the In Stock Records.

Why is a record I ordered appearing on my Wants List?
We often only have one copy of each record we list, and occasionally records are sold before we get a chance to process your order. If this is the case, the record will be automatically added to your Wants List for you by our sales system. You will be notified when this record comes back into stock.

How long do items stay on my wants List?
Until you remove them, or transfer them to an Order.

How do I know if a record on my Wants LIst is in Stock?
If a record comes into Stock and it is on your Wants List, we will offer it to you exclusively for 72 hours. Records that are being offered in this manner will appear at the top of your Wants List. We will also send you an email notifying you of this offer. If you don't check your email regularly, send us an email with a phone number that we can use to contact you on for this purpose. Please note that records offered on this basis are available exclusively for STRICTLY 72 hours only. So don't go on holiday. Ever.

About the website

Does your website require cookies?
No. When we were designing the site, we decided that we would use a server-side Order Processing System, as cookies seem to be destined to become more hassle than they are worth. Apparently there is even going to be Legislation in the UK covering their use at some point in the near future. You would think they had more important things to do...

Why do some of the pages take so long to load?
Early in the design process, we took the decision to make the pages a complete list of the stock in each genre, rather than show just 50 titles at once, with links to the next 50. Everyone we consulted agreed that they would rather have the whole list at once. As we often have so many great records in each genre, they pages can be a bit slow over a 56K modem. Sorry about this.

How secure is my personal information?
We have taken great efforts whilst writing the code for this site to keep your personal information secure. To further enhance security, all communication with the web server is now encrypted using a 128bit SSL Relay during a logon session. Ultimately, your data is as secure as your password, so don't use a weak one.
